BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville announced a new partnership with TXWORKS Internship Program.
The program provides paid internship opportunities to university students across several city departments to give them real-world experience while supporting the city's operational goals.
"It's extremely important to provide opportunities for our young people to get involved with the city. The vast majority of kids have no idea what they want to do when they graduate and having that experience really can guide them to careers that are available locally. My goal is to make sure our young people, our talent, stay here," said Mayor John Cowen.
City Manager Helen Ramirez said there is an application process and the first thing is to apply.
"It's like a job submit your resume, submit the application, and be interviewed. It's pretty much open until filled. I would just encourage everybody, if you're interested, to look at the application and just really look at the department you want to know more about and go ahead and apply."
Cowen added that there are over 20 departments in the city and the students who get selected will gain great experience.
