Brownsville man killed after crashing into tree

A 50-year-old Brownsville man was killed early Saturday after crashing his vehicle into a tree.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash that claimed the life of Edgar Alberto Martinez, 50, of Brownsville.

Martinez was the driver of a black Ford Focus traveling northbound around 5:02 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 1419, south of Alaska Road in Brownsville.

His vehicle “veered left, went into a side skid off the roadway, colliding with a tree,” DPS said in a news release.

Martinez, who died at the scene from his injuries, was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Troopers are currently investigating the crash.
