Brownsville ISD releases statement on death of security officer

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Independent School District issued a statement Monday, saying it is mourning the loss of a middle school security officer.

In the statement, the district reports that Ramiro Torres, a security officer at Manzano Middle School, has died. 

"Mr. Torres was a respected member of our school community, valued for his commitment, professionalism, and the positive relationship he built with students, staff, and families. His loss is deeply felt," the statement reads. 

Counseling services will be available for staff and students who feel they are need of support while coping with the loss. 

"Our thoughts are with Officer Torres' family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask for respect and privacy for the family as they grieve," Brownsville ISD added in the statement.
