BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Independent School District will put a big bond decision in the hands of the voters.
Monday evening, the Brownsville ISD trustees voted 5-2 to put the projects on the November ballot as two propositions.
Proposition A calls for $385 million for repairs to dozens of district buildings. Proposition B calls for a performing arts center.
School Board President Daniela Lopez Valdez, who voted in favor, says a tax increase will be minimal over the next 5 years.
"It is a tax increase, but it's not felt to the taxpayer, because it's spread out over five years," Valdez said.
The tax increase was discussed multiple times during meetings last week and back in February.
The bond did not pass in February due to a 3-3 split.
