The Texas Public Health Association will hold its 101st annual conference May 13 to 15 at the Brownsville Events Center.

The conference, titled “Launching into the Future of Public Health: On the Border, By the Sea and Beyond,” will feature various education sessions covering epidemiology, health education, administration, and environmental and consumer health, according to organizers.

The conference is expected to attract hundreds of public health professionals, educators, students and community leaders coming from across the state to “learn, discuss and address pressing health challenges and explore innovative strategies for healthier communities,” organizers said.

Dr. Art Rodriguez, city of Brownsville director of Public Health, Wellness and Animal Services, described the event as a “celebration of public health leadership and collaboration.”

“We are honored to host TPHA and to spotlight Brownsville as a thriving hub for health innovation, education and resilience,” he said.

The three-day conference will include plenary sessions focusing on bi-national health partnerships and the impact of infectious diseases; breakout sessions covering epidemiology, mental health, environmental health and community health workers; and mobile workshops such as one titled “Activating Brownsville: Unlocking Health Through Knowledge in Motion.”

Sessions will highlight local, state and national issues ranging from maternal care “deserts” in rural Texas to data-driven solutions for chronic disease and health equity, organizers said. The event will also feature poster exhibitions, networking and an awards dinner honoring public health excellence.

The conference is being hosted in partnership with the city with support of the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau. For more information about the conference or to register as an attendee go to texaspha.org.
