BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Fire Department is making history by assigning its first woman as Fire Lieutenant.

Lt. Amanda Ely is the Brownsville Fire Department's first woman Fire Lieutenant in almost 150 years.

The City of Brownsville and Brownsville Fire Department took to social media to congratulate Ely on this historic achievement.

"LT. Ely's success is an inspiration to future generations, encouraging them to pursue their dreams," Brownsville City Officials stated.

Lt. Ely is stationed at Brownsville FD Station 6.
