BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center has updated its fees, including adding an owner surrender fee.
Effective immediately, BARCC will be issuing an update on its fees to help continue to provide quality care and maintain operations to support the animals and services they offer.
BARCC is now implementing a $25 Owner Surrender Fee. This new fee helps cover the cost of an intake, housing and care of any surrendered pets.
"We understand surrendering a pet is a difficult decision, and this fee ensures we can continue to provide for those animals responsibly," BARCC said in a statement.
The Dangerous Dog Fee, previously $50, is now $100. According to BARCC, this fee applies to owners of dogs classified as dangerous under the city or state law, and will support the city's and public safety efforts.
City License Tags by the roll fee, previously $300, will now be $400. This fee applies to bulk purchases of city-issued pet license tags, often used by veterinary clinics.
Lastly, adoption fees have been lowered from $49 to $25 as the shelter remains committed to finding loving homes for animals. This fee helps cover a portion of the cost for vaccinations, microchipping and other basic care provided before adoption.
