BPD: Suspected drunk driver arrested after crash leaves one hospitalized

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was jailed in connection to a suspected drunk driving crash that left one person in critical condition.

Valentin Abrego was arrested by Brownsville police on a charge of intoxication assault with a motor vehicle, according to Hidalgo County Jail records.

The crash occurred at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday at E 13th and S. Frontage Road. Witnesses told police that Abrego disregarded a red traffic light, leading to the crash.

A reporting officer made contact with Abrego, and noted he had slurred speech and red-bloodshot eyes.

The victim in the crash arrived to a local hospital in critical condition, but has been reclassified to stable, according to police.

Records show that Abrego's bond was set at $25,000.
