PROGRESSO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A United States Border Patrol agent helped evacuate 11 people from a house fire on Monday morning.
At approximately 3:55 a.m., a BP agent assigned at the Weslaco Border Station came across a house fire with flames engulfing the back portion of the residence in the Progreso Lakes neighborhood.
The agent called emergency services and requested the dispatch of the Progreso Fire Department before entering the residence, according to a news release from the U.S. Border Patrol.
Upon entering the home, the agent found that the residents were unaware of the fire and began alerting and evacuating 11 people, including six children.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and provided medical treatment to the victims.
Additional Border Patrol agents and Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department deputies assisted while the Progreso Fire Department contained the blaze, the release added.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
