Border Patrol agent released from jail after being charged with child indecency

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent was released from jail shortly after he was indicted on a child indecency charge out of Hidalgo County.

Derek James Dominguez, 37, appeared before a judge Thursday following a months-long investigation into the child sex abuse case.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, Dominguez is accused of abusing a girl in 2023 and in December 2024.

He was issued a $50,000 bond and released from jail the same day of his arraignment, Hidalgo County Jail Records show.

ValleyCentral reached out to Border Patrol about Dominguez's employment.

Border Patrol did not disclose Dominguez's employment status.
