Boil water notice issued for community public water systems

MERCEDES, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Military Highway Water Supply Corporation (MHWSC) has issued a water boil notice for the communities of Lagos, Resaca Santa, Resaca del Monto, Palmer, Bent Tree, and others in the vicinity.

According to a news release from the MHWSC, a 2-inch water line break at the Joines Road water treatment plant on Wednesday caused low water pressure in the distribution system. Later in the day, the system pressure was re-established.

However, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the MHWSC to notify all customers to boil their water before consumption.

Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers are asked to boil their water.

To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, the water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In place of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from a suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, MHWSC will issue a notice
to customers that rescinds the boil water notice.

For questions, call the Water and Wastewater Superintendent at (956) 565-2491.
