HIDALGO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The driver in a fatal morning crash in Hidalgo was arraigned Thursday on multiple intoxication charges, according to Hidalgo Police Chief Romeo Rodriguez.
Eguaciso Luna Jr., 40, was formally charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication manslaughter for his involvement in the deadly crash.
The crash occurred at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Dicker Road and McColl Road intersection.
Police state that Luna was traveling southbound on McColl Road when he crashed into two other vehicles.
"Mr. Luna displayed a blatant disregard for the safety of others as he recklessly entered the intersection, leading to the fatal outcome," Police Chief Rodriguez stated.
One person died as a result of the crash and multiple people were injured.
"This case is a stark reminder of the consequences of being intoxicated while driving," Rodriguez continued. "Our department is committed to ensuring justice is served and that our roads remain safe for all members of the community."
Luna was issued a $350,000 bond and remains in custody.
The crash remains under investigation.
