DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Bishop Daniel Flores dedicated the new Plaza Amistad community center in North Donna on Wednesday.
North Donna is one of the fastest-growing areas in the Rio Grande Valley, according to the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville. With areas with substandard housing developments, there is a need for services to help families in the community.
"We've worked with a lot of local benefactors, agencies, clinics, and educational institutions to create a vision, a model where we could have buildings where we could have tutoring for young people after school. It will also be a place where we want to develop a sense of community and a sense of confidence, a sense of hope," said the Bishop.
In addition, medical and preventative care services are available, such as soccer fields for children to play and walking paths for families to exercise.
The new 10,000 square-foot community center is located at 1409 E. Mile 13 N in Donna.
