BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Brownsville Independent School District teacher has been arrested on charges of improper relationship with a student, the Cameron County District Attorney announced.
Julio Ricardo Trujillo, 43, was arrested Thursday by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations Unit in collaboration with BISD police on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.
The arrest comes as a result of an investigation into several employees of the district who are allegedly involved. A statement from BISD reads that other employees have been fired or are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The BISD states that the educators allegedly involved in this criminal investigation are affiliated with Rivera Early College High School and Hanna Early College High School.
Trujillo is listed as an a Criminal Justice System/Principles of Law teacher at Rivera Early College High School, according to the school website.
Following his arrest on Thursday, Trujillo was transported to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center where he is being held pending arraignment.
District Attorney Luis V. Saenz issued the following statement on the arrest:
