BISD swears in first woman police chief: Anna Gaucin

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The first woman chief of police for the Brownsville Independent School District has been sworn in.

On Thursday, BISD Superintendent Jesus H. Chavez along with the Board of Trustees and the BISD Police and Security Department joined for the swearing in ceremony of the new chief.

Anna Gaucin has been named the first woman to serve as a BISD Police Chief.

Gaucin has 20 year of service under her belt in law enforcement and education. She began her career at BISD in 2003 as a patrol officer for the police department.

Additionally, she taught criminal justice at Rivera Early College High School. Gaucin is also a graduate of Rivera Early College High School and lifelong resident of Brownsville.

Now, Gaucin will lead a team of 73 police officers and 53 security guards at BISD.

"She is a proven leader who knows that student safety is not only about strong policing but also about understanding the educational environment, the needs of our children and the families that we serve," Daniela Lopez Valdez, BISD Board Vice President said.
