Austin outscored RGV 39-19 in the fourth quarter and improved to 9-3 with a 124-112 victory over the Vipers at Bert Ogden Arena during their annual Kids’ Day Game on Tuesday.
The Vipers, the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets and four-time G League champions, fell to 6-6.
RGV led for most of the game and held a 93-85 advantage after three quarters. There were four ties and only three lead changes in the game.
Seven Vipers scored in double digits, led by Nate Williams’ 21 points and N’Faly Dante’s 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Jermaine Samuels Jr. scored 14 points while Cam Whitmore, Markquis Nowell and Nate Hinton each scored 12. Thon Maker added 10.
Four players scored 20 or more for the Spurs. Riley Minix led all scorers with 27 points, and Malachi Flynn tallied 26. David Duke Jr. and Isaiah Miller each netted 20 points.
The Vipers shot an impressive 44-of-82 (53.7%) from the floor. They were slightly out-rebounded 42-38 and committed 21 turnovers to Austin’s 15.
The Vipers go on the road to play the Osceola Magic at 6 p.m. Thursday at Silver Spurs Arena.
