Beat the heat: Seasonal cooling centers open in McAllen

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen has opened several cooling centers as temperatures in the Rio Grande Valley begin to reach the triple digits.

The following McAllen facilities will be open to residents as seasonal cooling centers to beat the heat.

McAllen Public Library

The McAllen Public Library will be open for residents to cool down throughout the week.

Doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

The McAllen Public Library is located at 4001 N. 23rd St.

Lark Community Center

Lark Community Center will open its doors to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Doors will also be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The center is located at 2601 Lark Ave.

Las Palmas Community Center

Las Palmas Community Center welcomes residents to keep cool between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The center is located at 1921 N. 25th St.

Palmview Community Center

The Palmview Community Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The center is located at 3401 Jordan Rd W.

McAllen reminds residents to beat the heat and take precautions by staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and limiting outdoor activity.
