PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Avocado Festival is returning to Pharr this weekend for the third year in a row.
The annual festival celebrates the Pharr International Bridge and its impact as the top produce bridge in the country.
According to the city, over 60% of the produce distributed nationwide is shipped through Pharr, with avocados being the most significant item.
In 2024, approximately 1.3 billion pounds of avocados were shipped from Mexico through Pharr and across the United States.
The Avocado Fest will feature avocado-inspired foods and drinks, guacamole and avocado costume contests, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
This year's event will take place from 2 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, in downtown Pharr.
Admission is free before 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., the entrance fee will increase to $5.
