LOS FRESNOS, Texas (ValleyCentral) — In sports, certain individuals make all the difference. Sebastian Barrera is different. He has helped his team win four consecutive District 32-6A titles.

“It's a blessing,” said Sebastian Barrera, Los Fresnos Senior Catcher. “I mean, not every team could do it, but I'm glad we're able to get four of them, and then hopefully we could shoot for a state title this year.”

Athletes of the Week: Evan and Liam McGurk

The senior impressed from the jump. He locked down a starting position as a freshman. He kept putting in work with an eye toward the future.

“24/7 grind every day,” said Barrera. “If you want to become a division one prospect, you just got to be training, and then it goes, it goes from there, just keep going up.”

The UTRGV commit continues going up. He picked up the sport at three years old and followed his dream of playing collegiately.

“All credit to my father,” said Barrera. “He was the one who helped me out, training day and night every day. I mean, just a blessing from him, and I'm thankful for my journey.”

Not only does Sebastian call a great game, but he also contributes with his bat.

“He's been coming in crucial situations and hitting the ball here and there,” said Rene Morales, Los Fresnos Baseball Coach. “He's helping us out, wherever he's hitting in the lineup. Sometimes he bats second, sometimes he bats fourth. Just depends on how I think the lineup we need to work to line up that week.”

Barrera describes himself as shy and lets his game do all the talking.
