WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The game of golf is music to Nick Luna’s ears inspiring other Panthers to strike the same cord.
“Oh it means a lot that I've paved the ways for these freshmen, sophomores and juniors, that they have a foundation to live off of for next year,” said Nick Luna Weslaco Senior Golfer. “So I'm really looking forward to what they can do next year, in the years coming after that.”
The senior has an artistic side to him. Yes. He sings and plays the accordion.
“Oh, I've been listening to that type of Tejano music ever since I was a little boy,” said Luna. “You know, my mom, when she would clean the house my grandmother, when she would cook, I would just it would be like, it was a big part of me. So then eventually, a couple years ago, I was like, You know what, I want to start playing this.”
The District 31-6A MVP’s ability on and off the course has impressed his golf coach Mike Givilancz III.
“So to have that, and to be able to play the accordion and to be in a conjunto group that like he is for the school, and to play at a good level for the accordion is that's good time management,” said Mike Givilancz III Weslaco Boys Golf Coach.
Luna loves to play golf and music, however, it’s the gentleman’s game that takes the top spot in his heart.
“Most definitely golf pro athlete,” said Luna. “You know? I mean, music would be good, right? But being a pro athlete is definitely like more stable than being a musician.”
The opportunity is there for Luna. He’ll play at Blinn College next year. And no doubt he’ll take his accordion with him.
