EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — If you want to know how to make a first impression, ask The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger. His 76-yard bomb to Xayvion Noland was the highlight of a dominant display.
Playing in the Vaqueros' first-ever football game, Marburger was near perfect. Going 18 for 19 with 365 passing yards and five touchdowns and winning the game 66-0.
“Read my coverage right, and then seeing this guy get open, right,” said Eddie Lee Marburger, UTRGV Redshirt Senior Quarterback. “It's just we gotta put it somewhere. He goes get it. So, I mean, just this guy deserves all the credit, though. Man, he made a great play. I mean, first in school history. Man, that's pretty crazy. Man, that's awesome.”
“Put a lot of hard work into this, and just to see everyone having fun, man, I was it was honestly a great time,” said Marburger. “And just see the rewards that come from hard work was pretty cool.”
It was a full-circle moment for the former Pioneer standout.
“I just thank God really for the opportunity, and thank Coach Bush for just bringing me here, really, and just giving me an opportunity to play again,” said Marburger. “So I mean, it's just, I mean, it's home for me.”
The game against Sul Ross State was three years in the making for coach Travis Bush. Seeing Marburger ball out was a dream.
“He was hot and got the ball out of his hands at times when he was supposed to,” said Travis Bush, UTRGV Football Coach. “But, you know, it's just, just great leader, calm, cool, collected out there. And you know, it was, it was fun to see him play.”
Saturday, August 30 will forever be remembered at UTRGV. So will Eddie Lee Marburger’s performance.
