MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — “I just think it comes down to knowing that I earned this, I deserve to be here,” said Arsyn Sadlier McAllen Senior Wrestler 145 lbs.
Wrestling has taught Arsyn very important life lessons.
“Wrestling has just taught me what determination means. It taught me that if I work hard enough at something if I push myself past the point where I’m comfortable then I can get things I couldn’t before,” said Sadlier.
Arsyn Sadlier is a senior on the McAllen wrestling team and is currently ranked second in the state at 145 pounds. But Arsyn’s focus is on the state tournament.
“Last year, I was ranked eighth in the state, and I ended up placing third,” said Sadlier. “I'm happy I got the ranking, but it doesn't mean as much as an actual placing would.”
To be the best you need to beat the best. Sadlier has already taken down the number-one-ranked wrestler in the state.
“It made me realize that I can win the tough matches, that I can push through that I can be the top of the podium,” said Sadlier. “So that's what I'm aiming for.”
Gina Reed has been coaching for 15 years and has never come across someone like Arsyn.
“No, not to that extent, where you know their drive is to continuously do the same sport over and over again, morning, to night,” said Gina Reed McAllen Wrestling Coach.
Sadlier has a firm grip on success. Arsyn recently achieved win 100 and is undefeated this season.
