EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Police Department is preparing to host a month-long academy that will provide residents with hands-on experience of day-to-day duties and responsibilities as a police officer.
The Edinburg Citizens' Police Academy will consist of free weekly sessions covering the following topics:
- Patrol procedures
- Criminal investigations
- Firearms
- Police driving
- Police K9s
Classes will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday starting Oct. 7.
There will also be two Saturday morning sessions.
The Edinburg Police Department has not released times for the Saturday classes.
The last day of classes is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15.
All classes will be held at the LCPL Derek Hernandez Police Training Facility, located at 1309 N. Doolittle Rd. in Edinburg.
The Edinburg Police Department is now accepting applications for the police academy until Friday, Oct. 3.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 21 years or older
- Must reside or work in Edinburg
- Must be able to attend all academy sessions
