HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral)— Buckner International, a non-profit chapter in South Texas, is inviting the Rio Grande Valley community to participate in its annual shoe drive.
The shoe drive will allow the non-profit to collect new shoes and socks for needy children and teenagers.
According to the non-profit, all donated shoes and socks must be brand new and closed-toed.
"In years past, the Rio Grande Valley community has changed the lives of thousands of vulnerable children at home and across the world," said Shawn Spurrier, director of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls.
The shoe drive will run on Saturday, May 1, through Friday, May 30.
Cash donations are also accepted and will help provide new shoes and cover distribution costs.
Monetary donations can be made by visiting the non-profit's fundraiser website.
A list of donation bin locations across the Valley can be found on the shoe drive website.
On the final day of the shoe drive, volunteers will drop off the collected shoes and socks at the Rio Grande Valley Children’s Home.
