Alligator spotted at Port Isabel Detention Center

BAYVIEW, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An alligator spotted at the Port Isabel Detention Center has been safely relocated.

The eight-foot-long alligator was spotted at the detention center parking lot on Thursday morning.

A gator rescue team with the South Padre Island Birding Nature & Alligator Sanctuary was able to safely wrangle the alligator and relocate it to a suitable area.

"Part of our mission is to educate visitors about our local wildlife and encourage respectful coexistence with species of all kinds," the SPI Birding Nature Center said.

The center reminds the public to remain cautious during an alligator sighting.
