Alfredo Alvear appointed as Harlingen Chief of Police

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen City Commission named Alfredo 'Fred' Alverar as the new chief of police.

Alvear was appointed to chief of police Wednesday evening during a regular city meeting.

Earlier this year, Alvear was named as interim police chief shortly after former Harlingen Police Chief Michael Kester retired in January.

"Chief Alvear has demonstrated strong leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. We are proud to have him at the helm of HPD and look forward to what`s ahead under his direction," the Harlingen Police Department said.

Alverar has also served with the Harlingen Police Department as a deputy chief, commander and sergeant.
