An Alamo man was arrested Tuesday night after he had threatened people with a firearm, ran from police and discarded various narcotics during the pursuit, the city of Edinburg said in a news release.
Moises Isai Rodriguez, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, manufacture/delivery of cocaine and evading arrest.
On Tuesday at about 11 p.m., Edinburg police responded to multiple emergency calls regarding a man, later identified as Rodriguez, brandishing a handgun and threatening people near the intersection of Jackson Road and University Drive.
Once there, police initiated a search for Rodriguez when additional reports came in reference to a man matching the same description threatening people in the 2700 block of W. University Drive.
Because of those reports, police found Rodriguez who then fled on foot heading south from the area.
According to the release, Rodriguez attempted to evade arrest by jumping into a canal and fleeing eastbound. He was then seen allegedly discarding various objects.
“Officers pursued and successfully apprehended him, recovering a loaded Springfield Armory 9mm pistol, cocaine with packing paraphernalia and other narcotics,” the release said.
The investigation into Rodriguez later revealed that he was allegedly responsible for a previous incident in January 2024, which led to a lockdown at Edinburg Regional Hospital.
Due to the gravity of the offenses, the Edinburg Police Department has coordinated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which has agreed to review the case for potential federal prosecution, the release states.
