HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Governor Greg Abbott spoke at the Texas Border Sheriffs' Coalition Conference on Tuesday.
At the conference, Abbott expressed his support for border sheriffs and emphasized his importance of local agencies who work in conjunction with Operation Lone Star.
Abbott pledged $110 million in the budget to support border sheriffs.
The governor also spoke about his priority on bail reform, saying he wants to make sure undocumented people charged with a felony can't be released on bail.
Abbott acknowledged the measure would require a constitutional amendment, and while his bill reform proposals passed bipartisan Lee in the Texas Senate, he will need to convince at least 12 Texas House Democrats to support his reforms for them to become law.
