BROWNSVILLE, Texas – A moving tribute was held for the late Jack White at First United Methodist Church in Brownsville on Saturday, June 7.
White, the longtime volunteer director of Good Neighbor Settlement House, passed away on his birthday, May 22. He was 85 years old.
“It was truly an honor to join Jack’s family at the service. Jack was one of the finest champions of good,” said Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.”
Jack’s daughter Sara gave this eulogy:
“People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. But love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of a self motive. But do good anyway. If you’re successful, you’ll win false friends and false enemies, or sometimes real enemies. Try to be successful anyway. Do good. The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow, but do it anyway. Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable. But be honest and frank anyway. You’ll spend years building something that can be destroyed overnight. But build it anyway. Give the world the best you have, and chances are you’ll get kicked to the teeth. But give it anyway. That was my father.”

Jack White was also a board member of Non Profit TV. One of his last acts for the nonprofit was to appoint me to its board of directors.
Just before his passing, Jack gave an exclusive, in-depth video interview to Non Profit TV’s executive director, Anthony Sarelli.
