BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Border Patrol on Tuesday arrested five people for attempting to scale the border fence with four large bundles of marijuana.

A DPS news release stated that around 7:24 a.m., troopers and agents were working line operations along the river in Brownsville and came across five individuals.

It was later determined that four of the individuals were minors who remained in Border Patrol custody for removal back to Mexico. Law enforcement agencies do not release mugshots of minors. Therefore, the only photo available is of Carlos Sebastian Hernandez-Vasquez, who admitted to DPS that he was part of the smuggling attempt.

Hernandez-Vasquez was charged with possession of marijuana, a 3rd degree felony. He was transported, booked, and released to the custody of the Cameron County Jail.

The 96.89 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $77,512 were seized and transported to the Fort Brown Border Patrol Station along with the boys.
