4 children, 1 adult hospitalized after house fire in rural Hidalgo County

LA BLANCA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Four children and one adult were taken to an area hospital for smoke inhalation Wednesday following an early morning fire in rural Hidalgo County.

The fire occurred at approximately 3:36 a.m. at a mobile home on the 1300 block of E. Monte Cristo Rd. in La Blanca.

According to Hidalgo County Fire Marshal Homero Garza, the fire is believed to have started outside the home where a mini split A/C was connected, and eventually made its way in.

Arson has been ruled out, Garza said.

Approximately 30% of the house was burned and impacted by the fire.

Five out of seven family members inside the home during the fire were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The Elsa Fire Department responded to the fire and received assistance from the Edcouch Fire Department.
