3 FEMA centers in South Texas to close

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Three disaster recovery centers across the Valley are closing this month. However, help will still be accessible.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), in coordination with FEMA, announced Wednesday that three Disaster Recovery Centers will be closing permanently next week.

The locations to close are the following:

  • Las Palmas Community Center, located at 1921 N. 25th St. in McAllen, will close at 7 p.m. on July 9.
  • Starr County Courthouse Annex, located at 100 N. FM 3167 in Rio Grande City will close at 5 p.m. on July 12.
  • Sebastian Community Center, located at 434 West 8th St in Sebastian, TX.

These three centers will also be closed for the Fourth of July holiday.

Additionally, other DCR locations and Business Recovery Centers will close in observance of Independence Day. According to a FEMA release, survivors can still get updates about their applications and learn about the appeals process after the three DRCs close at the following locations:

  • San Benito Parks and Recreation Building, located at 705 N Bowie St.
  • Harlingen Convention Center, located at 701 Harlingen Heights.
  • Pharr Development and Research Center, located at 850 W. Dicker Rd.
  • Weslaco EDC, located at 275 S. Kansas Ave.

Normal hours of operation resume on Monday, July 7.

  • Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturdays: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sundays: Closed

SBA Business Recovery Centers Locations and Hours:

  • Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, located at 311 E. Tyler Ave in Harlingen, TX.

Mondays – Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
After the July 4 Holiday, Fridays, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Valley Metro Transit Center, located at 510 S. Pleasantview Dr., Boardroom in Weslaco, TX.

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Friday hours resume after the Fourth of July holiday)

Submissions can also be done by :

  • Visiting online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Downloading the FEMA App for mobile devices
  • By calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. The line is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT. Help is available in most languages.

The deadline to apply is July 22, 2025.
