2 detention officers arrested for alleged excessive force on inmates

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two detention officers were arrested for allegedly using excessive force on inmates.

Alan Omar Jalomo, 26, and Malik John William Lee, 26, were both arrested by the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office on a charge of official oppression, a class A misdemeanor, according to a news release.

When complaints of excessive force began to come in against Jalomo and Lee, the HCSO initiated an investigation. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that both men assaulted inmates while serving as detention officers, the release stated.

"The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of the public," a statement from the Sheriff's Office read. "Our investigation found that the use of force by Jalomo and Lee against the inmates under their direct care and custody was unjustified."

The county said it will be taking the necessary and appropriate actions to ensure accountability and transparency to the public and the citizens of Hidalgo County.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the charges, as required by Section 1983 for possible Civil Rights Violations.
