Two men were arrested early Thursday morning near the Donna International Bridge after they refused to stop for a traffic stop and accelerated “aggressively” toward a Donna police officer who fired shots at the suspected stolen vehicle.
At about 6 a.m., a Donna police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspected stolen yellow Jeep traveling toward the Donna International Bridge, police said in a news release.
“As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated aggressively in an apparent attempt to strike the officer,” the release said. “In response to the imminent threat, the officer discharged his weapon.”
The suspects fled north on FM 493 as the officer initiated pursuit, which was then joined by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection.
The two suspects then abandoned the vehicle near a cornfield and fled on foot before being apprehended.
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation regarding the police shooting.
