1 in custody following police chase in Rio Grande City

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A suspect wanted by La Joya Police has been taken into custody after allegedly leading Rio Grande City Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety on a chase.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., RGC PD ran a Nissan Frontier's plates and were able to identify the driver as Rafael Demetrio Sánchez Rojas, 39, wanted out of La Joya since June for evading arrest, according to RGC PD.

RGC PD states Sánchez Rojas was a gang member considered armed and dangerous. The suspect has previously been deported eight times and is also considered a felon.

The chase started in Rio Grande City and ended in the Mission area.

Sánchez Rojas suffered minor injuries and was brought back to Starr County and taken into custody.
