1 dead in San Juan structure fire this morning, cause under investigation

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The sole occupant of a burning building in San Juan has died from his injuries, officials say.

An unidentified man was taken out of a building located on 2134 Doe Street in San Juan. San Juan Assistant Fire Chief Carlos Alaniz said the call for help came in at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters from San Juan were assisted by Pharr and Edinburg crews.

The flames were extinguished shortly after back up arrived.

The man who was taken out of the building was sent to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Fire officials said there is major damage to this building and that the man was the only one inside at the time of the fire.

As for what caused the inferno, investigators are working to learn that.
