CCSO: Man arrested for punching, slapping child

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cameron County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Monday for assaulting a child, according to the sheriff's news release.

Around 7:45 p.m. deputies responded to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville regarding a report of a child with injuries.

Deputies along with Child Protective Services Case Workers learned that a 4-year-old was admitted to the hospital with injuries to his face not consistent with an accidental fall.

As the investigation progressed deputies learned the child made an outcry that Joseph Wallace Carrasco, 27, slapped and punched him.

A follow-up investigation at a residence in Los Fresnos was conducted. Deputies located Carrasco and detained him after learning he had multiple felony arrest warrants.

Based on their investigation, deputies confirmed Carrasco caused the injuries to the child. He was arrested and transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center and is pending arraignment.

Carrasco is charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony.
