BISD confirms elementary school consolidation plan

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to consolidate three of its elementary schools.

 The BISD Board of Trustees agreed to consolidate the campuses in order to save funds at a Tuesday meeting.

Hidalgo County issues disaster declaration due to ongoing drought

The district is planning to relocate students who attend Cromack Elementary School to Josephine Castaneda Elementary School, students from Garza Elementary School will be relocated to Southmost Elementary and students from Del Castillo Elementary will be relocated to Morningside Elementary.

The next steps will be for the school board to choose a committee and the committee will decide if they will need to change the names of the campuses to reflect the merger.

Federal Transit Administration awards $500K to McAllen Corridor Transit Master Plan

The district will also be holding meet and greet sessions for parents and staff.

The plan will not be completed until June.

BISD says it is prepared to use the savings from the merger to create new programs for students.
