Texas high school secretary pleads not guilty to alleged sexual encounter with student

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A secretary for the assistant principal at Sharyland High School was arraigned Friday, and pleaded not guilty, after allegedly performing sexual acts on a student last year.

Samantha Lee Carranza was indicted on charges of improper relationship between educator and student, sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child sexual contact, records show.

On Sept. 1, 2023, an officer was informed that a 16-year-old student wanted to file a police report. The officer escorted the student to the main building, where the student expressed that he did not want to be seen by a "teacher" who was in the assistant principal's office, an affidavit stated.

The student told the officer that during lunch period on Aug. 31, he went to the assistant principal's office to borrow a cellphone charger. He asked the assistant principal's secretary, identified as Carranza, if he could borrow one, to which she replied, yes.

The student asked if he could take the charger and return it, but Carranza told him to stay and and charge his phone in the conference room, a few feet from her desk, the affidavit stated. While in the conference room, Carranza allegedly began discussing her personal life, and then showed the student a photo of her breasts on her cell phone.

“[The student] explains that he started walking towards the door of the conference room, and [Carranza] proceeds to close the door and tells him ‘you’re not going anywhere,'” the affidavit stated.

The student said she pulled the strings of his hoodie towards him, and began touching his private areas before performing sexual acts on him, the document alleges.

According to the affidavit, the student told police that Carranza threatened to blame him if he said anything about the encounter.

Mission police told ValleyCentral that Carranza turned herself in to police on Sept. 15. She was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail and her bond was set at $10,000.
