"The goal is to have safe pets, to give pets a fighting chance," Gutierrez said.

She added that in many cases first responders go into an emergency and they don't know there is a pet inside.

"We love our pets, we treat them like family and I am very glad the Pharr Fire Department and Police Department are on board and understand the importance of knowing which homes have pets," Gutierrez said.

Pharr residents who own pets and are interested in picking up a sticker can do so at the Pharr Animal Care Services, public works, fire department, police department and the Pharr One building during operation hours.
