Rain and thunderstorms making a midnight pass at the RGV

2 weeks ago 61

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A large storm system is moving across Texas on Tuesday.

The cold front with this system will slip south and should pass through the Valley overnight Tuesday and Wednesday morning before sunrise.

The front will act as a trigger firing up rain and thunderstorms from Oklahoma to the Valley. This storm already has a history of generating strong storms to our north.

By the time the cold front slides through the Valley, around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, it won't have the same potential as it has up north.

The atmosphere across the Rio Grande Valley is not as unstable or ready to build strong storms.

Showers and a few rumbles of thunder are to be expected for the Valley between midnight and 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

There is the slightest chance storms north of us could push into the Valley and break the calmness of the air here, generating stronger storms in a sequence but it does not seem likely right now.

The Storm Prediction Center has the Valley in a general thunderstorm risk only.

The potential for severe storms does graze the northern regions of the RGV so it is worth keeping an eye out.
