CCSO: Man arrested for groping woman at party

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested for allegedly groping a woman at a party, authorities say.

Ernesto Alonzo Mendez, 24, was charged with indecent assault, according to a release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

On April 1, deputies responded to a welfare concern at a Brownsville house. At the scene, authorities were approached by a woman on the roadway, who they say appeared frightened.

The victim said she was at a party when she was taken to a separate room where the suspect, identified as Mendez, groped her.

According to the release, Mendez pulled the victim's pants off in an attempt to sexually assault her.

The victim said she was able to call for help while Mendez was out of the room.

"The victim reported Mendez stopped because he saw the patrol unit's lights outside of the residence, and she walked to contact the deputies," Cameron County Sheriff's Office said in the release.

Mendez was booked into Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center and is pending arraignment
