Edinburg Library to celebrate Barbie's 65th anniversary

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Library is holding a celebration in honor of Barbie's 65th anniversary.

The celebration includes a special display featuring some of the most memorable career Barbies, along with a brief presentation that will provide insight into Barbie's illustrious history.

Barbie's 65th anniversary marks a significant milestone for the iconic figure.

According to Mattel, Barbie is known as the most diverse and inclusive doll line on the market with over 250 careers, 35 skin tones, 97 hairstyles and 9 body types.

"We welcome all children and those young at heart to join us in commemorating Barbie's 65th birthday," Letty Leija, Director of Library & Cultural Arts said. "Barbie's message of empowerment and possibility resonates with individuals of all ages, and we eagerly anticipate celebrating this special occasion with our community."

The anniversary celebration will also feature various photo opportunities and Barbie-themed raffles.

The event will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at the Dustin Michael Sekula Library located on 1906 S. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg.
