SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — San Benito police arrested a man Friday for allegedly possessing narcotics and trying to flee the scene.
At 2:45 p.m., April 5 officers from the San Benito Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 4-door passenger car off of the 200 Block of East Business Highway 77 for a traffic violation.
Two male individuals were inside the vehicle.
Upon initial contact, the driver stated to the investigating officer that he had a weapon within the vehicle.
The officer made further contact with the driver and passenger outside the vehicle. While speaking to the passenger, he attempted to flee on foot. After a foot pursuit, he was caught and arrested, according to a press release.
The passenger was identified as 33-year-old Joshua Morales, a San Benito resident.
During a search, officers discovered Morales to have been in possession of approximately 38 grams of cocaine, approximately 1.15 ounces of marijuana, approximately 3.5 grams of illegal substances from narcotics penalty group 3 (alprazolam) and approximately 1 gram of THC resin, the release stated.
Morales also resisted arrest during his apprehension, police said.
He was charged with manufacture/delivery of controlled substance PG-1, manufacture/delivery of controlled substance PG-3, delivery of marijuana, possession of controlled substance PG-2, evading arrest on foot and resisting arrest.
Morales is pending arraignment at this time.
