Hospitalized driver in San Juan crash charged with intoxication manslaughter

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that crashed into another vehicle and killed a man in San Juan is facing charges, police say.

Carlos Manuel Garcia Sancho, 40, is being charged with intoxication manslaughter and is now in Hidalgo County Jail.

Sancho was hospitalized on March 26 after a fatal head-on collision which claimed the life of 22-year-old Roberto Carlos Rodriguez Rios.

"The San Juan Police Department wishes to remind the public of the severe risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs," said Leandro Sifuentes, San Juan Chief of Police.

Police did not provide details on the amount of alcohol, drugs or if a combination of the two were in Sancho's system at the time of the crash.

Affidavit: Suspect in fatal San Juan crash admits to driving 109 MPH

Police believed racing was a factor in the accident but a further investigation reclassified the case as a road rage incident.

A second person, Roberto Victor Sotullo, was arrested last week for his involvement in the fatal crash.

Sotullo admitted to authorities he was trying to get away from the white Chevrolet by traveling at speeds of 109 miles-per-hour. Sotullo faces charges of collision involving death.
