La Joya ISD Special Olympic basketball team recognized

LA JOYA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Special Olympic basketball team at La Joya High School is being recognized for its performance at a regional competition.

Nearly 1,000 athletes across the region gathered Saturday at Sharyland Pioneer High School to participate in the Castilo Hoops competition, hosted by Special Olympics Texas Rio Grande Valley.

"A big shoutout to the La Joya HS Special Olympic Basketball team for their outstanding performance," La Joya High School said.

La Joya High School's special olympic basketball team includes 12 students, many of which earned gold, silver and bronze medals by showcasing their various skills in the sport.

"Special gratitude to the coaches, parents, family, and friends for their incredible support, guidance, and cheers," the school continued.
