Meat market calls police on Food Patrol looking into health violations

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — This week's Food 4 Thought a top-performing meat market chain called the cops on the food patrol. Meanwhile, a Korean fried chicken spot is basking in praise after being recognized last year.

Here’s what’s que rico and que asco.

The Food Patrol checked in with their friends at Kiri Kiri Korean fried chicken, located at 5401 North 10th St. in McAllen.

Owner Gaeyoung Lee earned a top performer sticker last September and is seeing major success since the food patrol put a sticker on the front door.

When asked if people recognized him from the news he replied, “Yeah, like a lot of people came even from Brownsville, La Feria, Harlingen and they said ‘Oh I saw you on the TV. Are you the person on the TV?' I'm like, 'yeah, I am.'"

They’re opening up two more Korean cuisine locations about 10 minutes away, called Kokiri Korean Bistro. That location will be preparing Korean dishes along with Korean fried chicken.

That’s que rico! But it’s que asco time!

The Food Patrol visited Haro’s Meat Market. If the name Haro’s sounds familiar, it’s because we surprised its Alamo location on 506 East Frontage with a top performer sticker last September.

They loved the exposure then, but when we showed up at its 1041 Ellis Avenue location in Alamo, they didn’t want us asking questions about its February 12 inspection.

According to the Hidalgo County Health Department the meat market had 24 violations, including:

-food on the ground

-needing to retrain food managers

-dirty floors, walls and ceilings

The inspector even noted Haro’s needed to “dispose any food products that are found in violation during inspection.”

After arriving at the meat market, we were asked to leave, and we did. Haro’s called Alamo Police, who issued us a criminal trespass warning.
